How
can you decide which display is right for your
home? The two major factors involved in
selecting your display are size of the screen
and brightness of the picture. For a true
theater experience, your screen size should be
two-thirds the distance from the screen. The
following displays are available in standard
definition and high definition television
(HDTV):
Flat Screen Plasma – Those unbelievably
thin display monitors that can be hung on your
wall just like pieces of video art. They range
in size from 40" to 80" and are suitable for
well lit rooms.
Direct View – Sharpest and clearest
picture, these monitors are the TVs we‘ve been
watching all our lives. Limited to 40-inch
screen or less, and suitable for well-lit rooms.
Rear Projection – These TVs come in
several technologies, but all range in size from
40" to 80" and are suitable for moderately lit
rooms. Most are fairly bulky in size; however,
newer technology is providing a smaller profile.
Front Projection – Best choice for very
large screens five feet to 25 feet. There are
many technologies available in this category,
each allowing a different quality picture for a
given size. You’ll need a light-controlled room
designed just for front projection displays.
